Subsequently, Winnicott keeps expressing by feeling of blame is noticeable when the kid enters to Oedipal Stage, since unknowingly the youngster is wishing his/her equivalent sex parent to vanish and in like manner sentiments of affection and abhor ascends in this stage. After this stage, youngster enters to Superego and self image comes in wording with the superego, leaving tension to develop into blame. Winnicott states that at this stage, kid would feel feeling of blame identified with masturbation. He proceeds by depicting the people who gained blame inclination may experience the ill effects of sa dness and obsessional mental issues. The cause of blame inclination emerges from Oedipus complex, when the youngster begins to encounter three way relationship (mother, father and kid). Next, Winnicott proceeds with the term ability to be distant from everyone else which is profoundly related with passionate improvement of a person. It is essentially understanding of being separated from everyone else in nearness of someone else, which causes kids to develop his/her inner self and adds to manufacture people character. The kid is presently a psychosomatic (mind inhabiting in the soma) being all alone. He sees all the items, including his mom, as outside of himself. At this stage, the childs personality proceeds onward from the condition of unintegration to joining and now he has picked up the ability to create object relations. As it were, he has now given from an abst ractly planned article to an on impartially saw object relationship, which the newborn child can live with the dad and mother together. In this segment Winnicott states that This expression maturational procedure alludes to development of the personality and of oneself, and incorporates the entire story of the id, of impulses and their changes, and of barriers in the sense of self comparative with nature (Winnicott, 1965). In this express, the moms experience a stage called essential maternal distraction where the moms are engrossed with the consideration of their child beginning from the most recent couple of long stretches of pregnancy and couple of weeks after the birth. Their infants appear to be a piece of them and they are related to the child. In like manner, the moms know how their infant f eels like or what their infant needs. In this circumstance, the mother herself is needy. The subsequent stage is relative reliance where the baby knows about the nearness of reliance. So as to clarify this stage, Winnicott expressed that when the mother is away for a second past the time-range of his (or her) ability to have confidence in her endurance, tension shows up, and this is the primary sign that the newborn child knows. The last advance is newborn children excursion to towards freedom. When the youngster passed the two stages regularly, he/she will get qualified to meet with world and its difficulties, since he/she will have the option to see what is as of now present in his(her own self. In conclusion, this stage clarifies the endeavors of the little child kid and of the kid at pubescence. At the point when these marvels happen in analysis the examiner can't date when it happened. Nonetheless, the examiner will have the option to portray to patients early outset. Besides, newborn children play become recognize in procedure of investigation. Play incorporates the self-improvement of through creative mind. Winnicotts principal pivotal hypothesis is transitional article and wonders. In this stage, the typical creating infant embraces a bit of material or a teddy bear. In my English classes, I have a tendency to deviate from the given task. This semester I took a FIQWS Composition class which helped me explore the unexplored areas of my academic writing. However, as the Semester has progressed, the work required from me was far more complex and demanding than the assignment listing of the syllabus. On the contrary, with each assignment, I viewed writing from a different perspective, incorporating feedback of my professor and appl ying the contents I learned from the class. This unhealthy practice must be addressed by the government to lessen the medical cost to treat the ill effects of smoking. Despite all available data available on smokingââ¬â¢s ill effects government has little success in reducing incidence of smoking. The New Zealand Government is currently addressing a smoking problem in the country. The government adopted the Smoke-free 2025 goal for New Zealand, in March 2011. This response was based on the recommendations of a landmark Parliamentary inquiry by the Maori Affairs select committee. The committeeââ¬â¢s report was clear that the term ââ¬Ësmoke-freeââ¬â¢ was intended to communicate an aspirational goal and not a commitment to the banning of smoking altogether by 2025. On that basis, the Government agreed with the goal of reducing smoking prevalence and tobacco availability to minimal levels, thereby ââ¬Å"making New Zealand essentially a smoke-free nation by 2025â⬠, (MoH, 2015). Answer: Social media is a product of advanced technology and it has a significant impact on our society. In today's modern era social media has become an important medium of sharing our emotions, thoughts and ideas. This research paper discusses the effects of social media on the young generation and this will help on coming up with mechanisms to make social media a positive communication tool in future. At present, there are various social media platforms some can even be linked together and they have helped people to connect with others easily, create virtual relationships, share real-time information and event advertise goods and services (Boulianne 350). Social media, however, has both pros and cons. Negative effects of social media such as time wasting, cyberbullying as well as destroying the credibility of businesses due to bad ratings. Social media usage is more rampant among the young generation and they are probably most affected by social media. Social media has so many negative effects on the young generation today. According to a survey done across the United States by the few Internet American Life Project more than half (55%) of all of online American youths ages, 12-17 use online social networking sites (Osama 94). Cyberbullying occurs almost every day across the various social media platforms. Cyberbullying is as worse as physical bullying and it affects young people when they are alone. Harmful and inappropriate images and content can be circulated easily across social media and it can be difficult to delete. Research shows that around 25% of young social media users have experienced cyberbullying or harassment, female youths being the most affected (Hamm, Michele P 775). Cyberbullying is highly associated with depression and this may lead to fatal effects such as suicide among the youths. Time wasting among the youths is another effect of social media. The various social media platforms have an addictive effect on young people and it is common to find youths glued to their phones, iPod's and laptops. Some students sacrifice their time intended for academic purposes just to be on social media. Other youths also use every opportunity they get to visit the various social media sites so as to get fast hand information of what is going on all over the world (Sherman 1027). This time could be used by the youth for self-improvement and invest it in productive activities for the individual and the society at large. Time is a resource that cannot be recovered and social media platforms encourage youths to waste a lot of their time on things that do not matter a lot in life. In the past these technologies were not so advanced and everyone enjoyed their lives instead of wasting time on the internet. The technology is changing rapidly, and more advancement can be seen in every ce ntury. Before the invention of social media youths used to spend most of their time by playing outdoor games which are physical in nature and helped in enhancing the health of young people. Another effect of the social media which effects the young generation of today's world is a change of behavior and culture. Social media has made a great impact on youth's lives as a change can be seen in their behavior as because of using a surplus amount of internet in their daily life. Many studies have been carried out on students usage of social media, its impact on their social behavior, education, academic performance (Chukwuere 9970). Learners start becoming dependent on social media for every information they need. Social media is becoming a need for everyone and each person is becoming addicted to the internet that even they are spending a lot of time on these technologies. With the improvement in technology, research has proven that social media plays a huge role in the economic growth, uniting of friends and allow the making of new friends. While its consequences include; terrorist attack, cyberbullying, and time wasting (Chukwuere 9967).Because of using a lot of internet cyber-crime is increasing such as many criminals do hacking due to which they can easily hack your bank accounts even your social application accounts. Social media use among the youths creates virtual relationships with people all over the world and this can provide an avenue for recruitment into terrorist organizations or any other malicious groups. Social media usage causes so many health problems. Anxiety and depression among the youths can be caused by social media and they have both immediate and longtime effects on an individual. Instagram for instance, it is the leading social media platform resulting in inadequacy among people with struggling with self-esteem or youths dealing with body image issues (Perloff 365). Most social media platforms are image-based and this sends so much information which the youths feel to be associated with. The fancy lifestyles displayed by celebrities in the social media make most youths feel they are lacking so much in their lives and they would fake their personality pretending to be living fancy. This makes the youth lose focus in following family traditions and even their personal principles that the society tried to instill in them. Youths tend to want to appear trendy in these social media sites and they sometimes go to the extent of sacrificing their privacy and personal principles (Be st 27-36) They sometimes share images and content that degrades their personality just to get likes and audiences from the social media "friends". Sustaining that fake image in the social media can easily make youths to forget their real identity and flow with their "self-created heaven" in social media. Social media also has some advantages for the young generation. The various social media platforms have has made it easy for young people to contact friends and relatives all over the world at the touch of a button (Valenzuela, Sebastin). It makes it easy for the youths to gain information and knowledge about their society and the world since it allows real-time transfer of information. Social media platforms also serve as a source of entertainment as long as it is not overused by the youths and become addicted to it (Vaterlaus 157). Some social media platforms such as LinkedIn have been used by organizations to share very useful information across their employees and this can be implemented for the other social media platforms. AS much as social media has numerous negative effects on the youths but it also has several benefits that cannot be overlooked. In conclusion, technologies are becoming advanced so fast that and many people are becoming dependent on it. Social media is a result of technological advancement and it has both positive and negative effects on the young generation. The current social media usage has so many negative effects such as time wasting and cyberbullying on young people. Despite the numerous negative effects social media has on youths, it can still be made a positive communication avenue. This will require educating the youths on how to use these platforms and develop mechanisms to reduce cyberbullying. Work Cited Best, Paul, Roger Manktelow, and Brian Taylor. It seems that most candidates really knew the extent of media;s influence in the outcome of the elections. Moreover, the results of the election further indicate how much media plays a part in our decisions for our country.Harold Lasswell;s communication model can be used to evaluate this recent event and see why some candidates prevailed and others did not. Thefirst stage of Lasswell;s model, ;Who;, seeks to explain who is in control. It would be reasonable to argue that those who were ;in control; in the campaign period were those who won seats in the government. In relation to George Gerbner;s model, those who were ;in control; were those who had access to the media.During the campaign period, TV audiences were bombarded with p olitical advertisements, of which candidates spent millions for, especially during prime time.Because of this expensive way of campaigning, we can conclude that riches played a great part in the recent elections.Money was one way of gaining access to the media in order to reach people of different sectors. Their frequent appearances have helped them gain recognition.Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo reportedly spent P333 million while Fernando Poe Jr. used up 92.1 million.Noli de Castro was said to have spent P89.6 million while his main vice presidential rival, Loren Legarda spent P64.9 million. Through moderation of the working environment, leaders achieve active participation and engagement of employees, and this improves their chances of being productive and improving the performance of the organisation in which they work. There are various ways that help leaders motivate employees until they become actively engaged in performance of duties they have in organisation and can willingly contribute to the business (Lengnick-Hall, 2011, p. 245-247). In many circumstances, organisations experiences some changes which require employees to adapt so that they remain relevant in the production system and that the organisation in which they are working may continue to be productive and profitable. This means that leaders in organisations need to have their employees equipped with relevant information that will keep them focused on accomplishment of their goals in the company. The theories of improving engagement in an organisation require influence in the behaviour, improvement of the capacity, the collective environment of working and improvement of relationships among various individuals (Lengnick-Hall, Beck). In order to attain motivation of employees and cause them to be engaged in the operation of the company in which they work, the leaders should seek to understand the behaviour patterns of the employees (Collinson, 2005, p. 1421). This is because the way employees are influenced by the environment of the company operations, in the same way; it affects the companyââ¬â¢s operations in the course of business. This means that to achieve actively engaged employees leaders will need to establish an environment that will ensure freedom of expression of ideas and feelings of the company. Influencing the behaviour systems of the employees, leaders should focus on i mplementing strategies that will conform to the behaviour systems and contribute to the success of the company in different situations. This implies that all employees will have their own perspectives represented in the course of doing business, and they will have the freedom they need to present ideas to the leaders as well engaging actively in creative activities in the company (Collinson, 2005, p. 1421-1422). The understanding of the personalities of the employees will help leaders to choose the right method to motivate them so that they can engage themselves in the company business. For instance, understanding the way employees could respond to various issue in the society could help the leaders to implement their plans of motivation. According to McGregor theory X and Y (Green, Wu, Whitten and Medlin, 2006, p. 577), there are two perspectives of looking at the employees in an organisation i.e. as inherently lazy and needing a form of pressure to perform their duties, or as a se lf motivated and needing little or no pressure so that they can perform. Using McGregorââ¬â¢s theory X and Y would help leaders to treat employees in ways that they are conscious of things they ought to do and those that they could not work for them. This ensures that leaders will be able to choose the right way of motivating the employees through punishment or by giving rewards that cindyallen132http://www.blogger.com/profile/16170920456505537175noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983533796892461240.post-79820946568792333862020-02-05T22:39:00.001-08:002020-02-05T22:39:03.284-08:00Leadership Capability Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 wordsLeadership Capability - Research Paper Example These are the main areas that I need to improve on as a leader. As a leader with such weaknesses, I will ensure that the subordinates are aware of the fact that their inefficiency will not be tolerated in any way. Ways of improving this include having talks with the subordinates to explain their decisions on various issues. I will also engage the subordinates in friendly activities. However, when it comes to awarding punishments I will not be friendly or take sides. In any organization, for subordinates to follow the laid down procedures, the leader needs to be straight to the point and articulate. As the leader, I will occasionally seek assistance from other employees in areas where more assistance is required. All subordinates need to feel that their employer is friendly, but this is only to a certain extent. Therefore, I will ensure that employees are more cooperative and self-initiative (Adair, 2011). Chapter 3 shows that as a leader I am involved in working moderately with what the subordinates are doing. My strengths include being able to coordinate with the subordinates and engaging in what they are doing. As a leader, I am able to make things work and make valid decisions with the consideration of how it affects others. My weaknesses, as highlighted in the score, include not being fascinated by technical work and not being able to work with abstract ideas. These are the two main reasons why I had a low score. One of the steps that I need to take as a leader so as to improve is to adapt to technical issues. To adapt I will ensure that the issues which I do not understand are explained to me in ways that are interesting. I will also ensure that there is a competent subordinate who will be in a position to deal with such issues. In all organizations, most subordinates prefer a leader who is an all-around person. Hence, as the leader, I will ensure that they view me as a competent individual in all aspects concerning the firm. An all-around leader, in a suc cessful organization, is perceived by the subordinates as a person who can solve their problems. These are not just any problems but only those that are related to the organization. Addressing weaknesses such as these, will involve all my time and ensuring that I get all the information required when dealing with employeesââ¬â¢ new ideas. This approach, in my opinion, is likely to solve my weakness because having all the information will assist me to have more confidence in the ideas presented by the employees. In a successful organization, when a leader makes a point of doing the research individually, his or her actions increase the level of confidence among subordinates (Godwyn and Gittell, 2011). The fact that the leader is involved in what subordinates are doing, shows that he/she is a suitable leader. Hence, to strengthen my strong characteristics, I will ensure that my subordinates view me as a leader who is concerned with their problems at work. Chapter 4 shows that as a leader I have the ability to effectively deal with group work. This is a crucial character trait of a leader in organizations where most work is done in groups. In this chapter, this is one of my key strengths. I scored highly, but there are some areas that need to be improved. One of the areas that need to be improved is my social aspect of being a leader. It is clear from the test scores that I am not in a position to solve cindyallen132http://www.blogger.com/profile/16170920456505537175noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983533796892461240.post-45399799864660229192020-01-28T13:39:00.001-08:002020-01-28T13:39:05.427-08:00The Importance of Theory and Research in Child Development Essay Example for Free The Importance of Theory and Research in Child Development Essay In order for us to understand how a child develops we must conduct research on theories that we believe and others believe to be true. When we do understand the development of children we will be able to understand the skills and behaviors of children. This will help us to understand why they will not eat certain foods or how children of different ages react differently to certain things. In the early 20th century many theories were put forward to help explain why and how children develop. A theorist who played a major influence in how we understand children was Jean Piaget. According to Mossler (2014) ââ¬Å"While administering Binetââ¬â¢s intelligence test to Parisian schoolchildren, he became fascinated by childrenââ¬â¢s incorrect answers. After many years of observing the mental limitations of children, including his own, Piaget came to the conclusion that children of different ages think differently.â⬠(p. 16) When an individual says the phrase ââ¬Å"I did that with my children and it worked fine for them,â⬠I believe that they are trying to get the other individual to do what they did with their children. Whether they are explaining to them how they punished their children or how they made it easier for them to learn something. This statement is not true in all cases. How one child understands and learns can be different than how another child understands and learns. For example, growing up my parents would punish me by spanking me, by doing this I learned that what I was doing was wrong. In order to teach me something new, my parents would show me how to do it once and then let me try it. This method of teaching has always worked with me but with my little sister, she had to study it a few times before she got the hang of it. It is important to utilize developmental theory to explain a foundational knowledge of childrens development so that parents and caregivers will be able to properly raiseà these children in healthy and trusting environments. According to Virginia Department of Social Services (2004) Child development is the foundation upon which early childhood practice is bas ed. Because the psychomotor, socioemotional, cognitive, and linguistic developmental domains are inter-related, early childhood professionals in all types of programs (e.g., family child care homes, early childhood education centers) must comprehend both the processes of development and the adultââ¬â¢s role in supporting each childââ¬â¢s growth, development, and learning. (p. 1) Scholarly researchers will form a hypothesis, and then while referring back to previous research or writing by other academics or scholars, conduct research on the hypothesis in order to make their information available to the rest of the scholars. Unlike scholarly research, anecdotal evidence is something that is experienced by the researcher and is not considered very reliable. According to Mossler (2014) ââ¬Å"Anecdotal evidence is not a substitute for good research. Only controlled experimental studies can properly answer the question of cause and effect.â⬠(p. 48) Cognitive developmental theory i s founded on the idea that children gain knowledge by exploring and influencing the world that is all around them. According to Mossler (2014) ââ¬Å"After many years of observing the mental limitations of children, including his own, Piaget came to the conclusion that children of different ages think differently. Mental activity evolves in a predictable pattern of distinct stages related to natural maturation of the brain (Piaget, 1983).â⬠(p. 16) The key points to Piagets theory of cognitive development are the four stages of his theory. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which occurs from the time the child is born up to the age of two. In this stage the idea that infants ââ¬Å"thinkâ⬠by influencing the world around them is considered. The second stage is the preoperational stage, which occurs from the age of two to the age of seven. This is characterized stage by the impression that children use symbols to represent their discoveries. In the third stage, the concrete operational stage, transpires when the child is seven up to eleven years old. This stage is categorized by the idea that childrenââ¬â¢s reasoning becomes focused and logical. In the final stage, the formal operational stage, children from ages eleven to adulthood are described by the indication that children develop the ability to think in abstract ways. (Boundless, 2015) The value of continued learning is important for an individual to learn andà grow. The way we think and act is constantly evolving and this happens from new understandings, new knowledge and new skills. We should incorporate both personal experience and scholarly research grounded in theory in order to learn new things and help others learn them as well. Most research starts with an idea and is developed from there. References Boundless. ââ¬Å"Piagets Theory of Cognitive Development.â⬠Boundless Psychology. Boundless, 27 Jun. 2014. This technique is becoming increasingly popular in the world of the film industry. Several animated features are now being created by the use of computers. Special effects are being created by computers as well. Movie companies that are becoming famous for using computers are Pixar, Dream Works, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Square Pictures and Walt Disney. Dream Works developed the computer animated movies, ââ¬Å"Antzâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Shark Taleâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Shrekâ⬠(1 and 2). Paramount Pictures created, ââ¬Å"Jimmy Neutron: Boy Geniusâ⬠, Square Pictures created, ââ¬Å"Final Fantasy: The Spirits Withinâ⬠, and Walt Disney created the recent animated feature, ââ¬Å"Dinosaur.â⬠The most inventive and successful company is by far Pixar with their creation of ââ¬Å"A Bugââ¬â¢s Lifeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Finding Nemoâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Monsterââ¬â¢s Inc.â⬠and ââ¬Å"The Incredibles.â⬠(List of Computer-animated films) In computer animation an illusion of movement is created by an image being displayed on the computer screen which is then quickly replaced by another image that is very similar but shifted slightly. One may wonder, how do these movies create images to look like smooth moving figures? The pictures must be drawn as 24 frames per second or faster. Some movies these days are putting 70 frames a second which makes it impossible for the eye or brain to process to notice the break between objects. Computer animation requires high frame rates to reinforce the realism of the picture. There is no jerkiness seen as the higher speeds due to ââ¬Å"persistence of visionâ⬠(Computer Animation). Humansââ¬â¢ eyes and brains help out with computer animation, they automatically smooth out minor breaks because they store a picture for a fraction of a second and it creates the illusion of continuous movement. After an image is sent to the screen to a back buffer, a computer can draw the image and make any changes needed before it is complete. Once the image is correct the computer tells the screen to draw from the back buffer either by copying the image from the back buffer to the primary buffer or making the back buffer the new primary buffer. cindyallen132http://www.blogger.com/profile/16170920456505537175noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983533796892461240.post-9401086070506613092020-01-12T06:27:00.001-08:002020-01-12T06:27:03.914-08:00Crime and Hand Unemployment Rate EssayMany contemporary macro-level theories of criminal behavior and empirical tudies pf crime rates address the relationship between economic factor and crime. Relationship between economic circumstances such as wage inflation and unemployment to criminal activity is the main subject matter of this study. Wage inflation and unemployment taken as predictors of crime rates. Unemployment and inflation are two intricately linked economic concept. In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time and it is also erosion in the purchasing power of money. And unemployment occurs when a person is able to and willing to work but urrently without work. Unemployment is usually measured using the unemployment rate which is defined as the percentage of those in the labor for who are unemployed. One causes of unemployment is inflation. Over the years there has been a number of economists trying to interpret the relationship between the concepts of inflation and unemployment. This relationship is also known as the Phillips curve. Phillips curve is an inverse relationship between rate of unemployment and rate of increase in money wages. The higher the rate of unemployment, the lower the rate of wage inflation. In other words, there is a radeoff between wage inflation and unemployment lead to a problem that individual do such a thing Just to endure it. It means that if you are unemployed you will do anything to earn and to survive for everyday living. For this, some people tend to commit crimes especially crime against property. It is a common observation of many countries that unemployment rates and all crime rates are positively associated but negatively in the wage inflation. cindyallen132http://www.blogger.com/profile/16170920456505537175noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983533796892461240.post-38720773182513792862020-01-04T02:51:00.001-08:002020-01-04T02:51:03.495-08:00Inequality in the United States Among Minorities - Free Essay Example Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1915 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2017/09/12 Category Advertising Essay Did you like this example? Social Inequality in the United States among Minorities By: CLK Have you ever been treated unfair, not equal because of your race, gender, status, wealth. Every day in this world people are judged and discriminated against just for these things and sometimes for other simple reasons. So many movements have happened in the United States to try and right the wrong of unequal things against minorities. For example womenââ¬â¢s suffrage which was the fight for the right for women to vote, they werenââ¬â¢t allowed to vote just based off the fact that they were woman. Another movement was the civil rights movement which if you think about it was not that long ago, it was long overdue, but the movement was not that long ago. As many know it was the fight for the equal justice and treatment of blacks in this country. Being a minority has a broad wide range it is just not black people , or anyone that is not white there are other groups of minorities such as Hispanics, or being a woman, gays and lesbians, religion groups. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Inequality in the United States Among Minorities" essay for you Create order While in this course I have learned so much about many different kinds of social problems in societies around the world and in the United States, such as poverty, social inequality, race and cultural discrimination, gender stratification, environmental damage, population growth, and urbanization. I chose my final essay to be on Social Inequality and the Minorities in the United States. For me this subject raises many points of our daily life and brings us to the point of reality in our world. While we think such things as racism and discrimination are minor things in our bust lives or in our changing world, but those things are still very much alive, maybe just not in the for front like they were once before but they still do exist and very much alive in out country. My paper is going to discuss how minorities are treated unfair or unequal in this country, and what I think we can do to better solve this silent growing problem here in the great United States, for I believe our country has come alone way but we have so much further to go to help and to benefit everyone here, man or woman, black or white, gay or straight. Letââ¬â¢s start off with what are social inequities and what is minorities. Social inequality refers to a lack of social equality, where individuals in a society do not have equal social status. Areas of potential social inequality include voting rights, freedom of speech and assembly, the extent of property rights and access to education, health care and other social goods. Inequality is socially created by matching two different kinds of processes. The social roles in society are first matched to ââ¬Ëreward packagesââ¬â¢ of unequal value and individual members of society are then allocated to the positions so defined and rewardedâ⬠Social inequality is different from economic inequality but the two inequalities are linked. Economic inequality refers to disparities in the distribution of economic assets and income. While economic inequality is caused by the unequal distribution of wealth, social inequality exists because the lack of wealth in certain areas prohibits th ese people from obtaining the same housing, health care, etc. s the wealthy in societies where access to these social goods depends on wealth. Most Americans have a sense of the presence of inequality. We learn about it in many ways on a daily basis, from our observations of people, homes, cars, neighborhoods, and news accounts of the rich and famous. There is good evidence that we start to learn about inequality at a very early age and accumulate additional knowledge throughout our lives. Most Americans are aware of different forms of inequality. They know about income inequality and the patterns of discrimination against women and racial and ethnic groups. As we prosper through time, inequality is slowly less evident. A lot of people dont realize that although things are improving with time, inequality is still prominent in our society. The people that are failing to realize that there still is inequality are the fortunate ones. They rise well above the poverty line, and usually live relatively economically sound lives. They are the people who are supplied with our societys benefits. The people that are in pursuit of social change, and constantly bring attention to issues of equal rights and privileges, are often the people that do not have them. They are the ones who suffer daily from different levels of inequality. Minorities are people who are a racial, religious, political, national, or other group thought to be different from the larger group of which it is part, which can be a board spectrum of people. Minority groups are made up of people who share a common set of cultural or physical characteristics that marks them as different from the powerful dominant group and for which they often suffer social disadvantages, because of their lack of power. As in the case of race and ethnicity, minority group membership is given by society. The most common minority groups are African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Women. A social inequality that is happening in the United States right now is health care among blacks. For blacks, health inequalities are the cumulative result of both past and current discrimination throughout U. S. culture. Due to discrimination and limited educational opportunities, blacks disproportionately work in low-pay, high-health-risk occupations (e. . , they are migrant farm workers, fast food workers, garment industry workers). (Vernellia). The lack of having a good job really affects the way people are cared for. Having a good job that provides good health care is the key, but like stated by Vernellia a lot of blacks donââ¬â¢t have good paying jobs that offer good health care, they either donââ¬â¢t have any or on public health care, which doesnââ¬â¢t cover much and what it does cover, doesnââ¬â¢ t grantee they proper heath care provider or health care choices. In fact, for blacks, racism is a primary factor. Even when you control for economics, blacks have poorer health. That is, middle-class blacks suffer poorer health than middle-class whites. In fact, middle-class whites live ten years longer than middle-class blacks, while poor whites live only three years longer than poor blacks. (Vernellia). Even though health care right now in the United States is becoming a big issue right now, the point is still clear that they have and have-nots are treated different. People who lack good insurance or insurance at all get the short end of the stick and get the ââ¬Å"just to get you byâ⬠health care and health care providers, and most of these people are minorities. This is an issue that needs to be solved for many people are dying before their time just because they didnââ¬â¢t or donââ¬â¢t receive the best health care that is out there. Another big issue that has been hitting the news lately is another inequality here in the United States, and against another minority that a lot of people over look, the LBGT (Lesbian Bisexual, Gay, Transgender) community. These groups of people are normally looked over for their sexual orientation, or sexual preference. Most people over look this group because of some moral/religious views that they have about this group of people and then cast their discrimination upon them, which there for they are subject to is treated unfairly and unequal. As I did my research I came upon an article that was surprising to me, and was about the U. S military and how they deny veterans who are of the LBGT community their rightful benefits from being in the military. This was a shock to me for I know of the ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t ask, Donââ¬â¢t tell policyâ⬠, which I think is a disgrace to our country and our military, but to deny a person who put their life forward for a country and then not to receive their rightful benefits because of their sexual preference is ludicrous in my mind. For example: if a service member lives in a state where marriage (Massachusetts, California) or civil unions or domestic partnerships (New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, D. C. , etc. ) are available, they are prohibited by law from taking advantage of those legally recognized relationship statuses while still serving in the military (either on active duty or in the reserves) because of DADT. Once an LGB service member is discharged and becomes a veteran, he or she can marry, enter a civil union, or register as a domestic partner if the state so allows. However, because the Defense of Marriage Act prevents the federal government from recognizing these same sex relationships, spouses and partners of LGB veterans are denied access to death benefits, pension benefits, home loan assistance programs, medical benefits, the commissary, and any other benefits offered to heterosexual veterans. Hecht). That is just one of the unfair things that the U. S military upholds, you would think someone serving the U. S would have the same rights as their fellow heterosexual members have but they donââ¬â¢t. In the article they also mention the paying back of some benefits if military members were to ââ¬Å"come outâ⬠to a commander that they will have to pay back all the funds given to them by the military and will receive a bill from the military. Like I mentioned while out country has come a long way, we still clearly have a long way to go. For this is one of the most discriminating things and error in our government, which is supposed to be for all people and not against its people. My research has proven that minority groups are still being treated unfair and unjust, and for many reasons. As we portray ourselves to be Americans and the land of the great American dream and opportunities for all. All are not granted the same things as others. Jobs, benefits, opportunities, education are all subjected to be taken away from the minority groups, which than lessen their success or goal of reaching that American dream, as they seek out to have one day. Our country us a melting pot and has always been that way from the being of time, we all learn from one another and should help one another. The foundersââ¬â¢ of the Constitution wanted nothing more than for everyone to have the same opportunity to the joys of life and the joy of the American dream of being successful in life. While out country has come a long way we still have a ways to go, everyone is not equal, everyone is not assured to have the same benefits as other have, and itââ¬â¢s not right, and just like the suffrage movement, the civil right movements, and the movements that will take place in the future or that will occur in the present things have to be changed so that everyone has the same opportunity and benefits that everyone has, because as a American that is their right as a citizen of this wonderful country. Answer: Introduction: Corporations are devising ways, means and methods in order to gain significant competitive advantage in the market(Basoglu 2007). In order to conduct the organization, corporates forms various plans and strategies. Corporations strategies are largely made by their team of managers or upper management, who aims to establish the companys core competencies in the market in order to gain significant competitive advantage. Competitive advantage is largely now ruled by innovative tactics and methods deployed that capitalizes on market opportunities. The case study highlights several popular example companies as Uber, which does not own taxis but is currently worlds largest taxi provider(Gumusluoglu 2009). Similarly Alibaba, who has no inventories of itself but happens to be the worlds largest retailer. Airbnb is the worlds largest accommodation provider but does not own any real estate. These companies earn significant revenue by the way they have been able to recognize customer needs and connect them to their potential provider. The report deals with the case study of companies that are largely driven by innovation and opportunity as tactics. But the primary challenge is faced by managers of companies in identifying the ideal resources, organizing them and building a plan for transforming such opportunities to yield significant advantages(Hamel 2006). The above example companies highlight that competition in business today is purely led by innovative strategies and planning on unutilized resources. Thus the report discusses the challenges managers face in diagnosing such opportunities and thereby organizing and planning on them subsequently, then decision making on which opportunity to capitalize. Discussion Business have significantly transformed themselves from the traditional method that earlier gave them the competitive edge. The two most essential issues that has been highlight through the case study are; innovation is driving businesses and its competitive edge, hence managers of businesses needs to identify the opportunity areas and capitalize on them(Walker 2010). Secondly, managers in businesses need to utilize resources by organizing them, in such a way that significant advantages of scale can be reaped from it. Traditionally organizations used to engage in long term planning that involves significant utilization of efficient resources and time frame. Drawing on these plans, used to provide organizations with various policies and strategies for its various departments like human resources, financial, production, facility and marketing departments. But modern organizations often lack these extensive departmentalization concept and makes use of the qualitative and quantitative forecasting techniques in order to form a strategy. The most important part of managerial effectiveness lies in its decision making which helps in understanding which decisions to adopt and which to discard from the quantitative and qualitative analysis(Damanpour 2006). Business primary challenge has been to be creative and innovative in every aspect of organizational activity such that newer processes, techniques, methods and products can be designed. These new and innovative processes are aimed at either reducing costs or in creating a unique branding for the company, in terms of innovation. In order to attract customers, expand into newer markets and generate greater revenues companies are striving hard to develop new and innovative products and processes(Guan 2007). Innovative strategies and processes requires tremendous efforts from organizing capabilities of the company, by diverting them to the innovative process. This innovative process or product creates a unique brand identity for the company which in turn renders it competitive edge. Rapid change of technology has altered the ways companies previously used to market its products, hence greater amounts of organizational resources for marketing now goes into social media advertising(Sampson 2007). Marketing managers while planning needs to make necessary budgetary allocation accordingly and organize resources. Hence, now a major part of the budgetary expenses in planning process of organization goes into research and developmental activiti es of the company. The second challenge of businesses is organizing resources available such that maximum advantage can be reaped from it(Armbruster 2008). The planning stage in managing of organization allocates significant amount of resources to each departments of organizations, which in turn puts them into effective and efficient use. Budgetary allocation made for each department is usually referred to while allocating resources, which is again, is prepared from qualitative and quantitative research. The budgetary allocation for financial and other resources lies with the planning department, each department develops their individual budget and submits it to the central planning department for approval. Those businesses are able to utilize resources efficiently who are able to allocate them according to their needs. Resources need to be diverted to most productive activities that is able to generate maximum revenue for organization. The major focus of todays businesses is to utilize resources in ma nufacturing or producing that produces minimum impact on the environment(Melville 2010). Organizations liability has been now extended beyond their capacities to understand the effect they have on entire society and the environment. Hence, resources allocation needs to ensure minimum use of scarce natural resources, maximum amount of recycling, packaging using environmental friendly material, thus overall reducing wastes disposal to the environment in soil, water or air. Activities of business are aimed at reducing usage of scarce natural resources and to impact the environment positively. Planning and organizing departments that are actively involved in allocating of such resources needs to design strategies and set prerogatives accordingly. Managers in organizations often faces dilemma as to what quantity of resource to allocate to which department, though the analysis of data and industry position reflects valuable information regarding the same. The primary challenge is in diagn osing the requisite amount of needs for each department and then allocating them without any resistance from other departments(Tushman 2012). Management functions are highly interrelated and inter connected hence managers need to effectively balance out resources factor and have a concrete basis for such decisions. Conclusion The above intensive discussion on planning and on organization reveals that organizational manager needs to focus on planning and organizing according to modern tactics. Sustainability of organizations will be only rendered by organizational capacities to recognize resources utilization in such a way that can lead innovation and significant change in the value of goods produced. Organizations make use of its various resources while planning and organizing which is led by organizational objectives. Hence, though planning can be short-term or long-term in nature organization which involves division of labor for various objectives needs to be innovative in nature. In order to inculcate innovation management has to take decision regarding which to take and follow. When a company adopts innovation as it process in todays world, it is not only able to compete with the technological companies that lead the markets today but also develop sustainability for the business. Recommendations Businesses needs to instill a spirit of innovation and innovative techniques in order to compete in the new business scenario. The following recommendations will help businesses cope with the modern day challenges of businesses and establish as a leader in the market; Every and each processes within organization need to orient towards innovative processes in planning, organizing, control, leading, decision making and so on. As all departments and functions within a particular organization are interconnected hence greater focus should be on innovative drive. Management needs to accommodate innovate processes and encourage all members of organization to contribute towards the process. Due to rapid changes in technology managers and other stakeholders of the organization needs to be updated every time. The business needs adapt to these technological changes, hence processes needs to be innovative in nature. Organizations and its members are traditionally adversaries to the idea of change but current market scenario requires companies to change quickly to the rapid changing circumstances. Organizations need to effectively utilize its transformational leaders in order to sail through several change processes. Businesses need to be dynamic in nature such that they are able to adapt to any changes that are taking place in the industry environment. Dynamism of businesses helps create their sustainable advantages. Rapid invention of technology coupled with environmental norms have forced organization to change and design processes to the new environment. A business that is able to transform according to process is able to establish competitive advantage in the market. Most importantly business leaders need to be visionaries such that they are able to forecast changes and make alterations accordingly. Great and leading businesses are made due to their leaders, hence it is the most important parameter in organizations. References Armbruster, H., Bikfalvi, A., Kinkel, S. and Lay, G., 2008. The treatment is directive, client-centers, and endeavors to enhance motivation for change via ambivalence resolution, in addition to enhancing the patientââ¬â¢s perceived self-efficacy (Burke, Arkowitz Menchola, 2003, p. 846).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Motivational Interviewing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The essay endeavors to compare the motivational interviewing principles with the group therapy approach and the family and marital therapy as applicable in patients seeking treatment for substance abuse. The essay shall also endeavor to determine the most effective approach out of the three discussed in treating chemical dependency. Motivational interviewing principles As a counseling style, motivational interviewing endeavors to establish a verbal context that would allow patients who are chemically dependent to overcome their ambivalence regarding behavioral change. This is in addition to guiding the patient on the necessary steps to take so that the patients can assume a healthier and valued lifestyle (Washton Zweben, 2008, p. 80). Motivational interviewing hinges on the premise that a clinician-patient interaction results in resistance to change and motivation, meaning that resistance to change and motivation is not a characteristic of the patient. Therefore, in motivational interviewing, emphasis is placed on the best way that treatment providers can ensure that they increase commitment to change and reduce ambivalence within the setting of a clinical interaction. In motivational interviewing sessions, use is made of open-ended questions. This is important so that the patients can be encouraged to discuss their current circumstances (for example, the patient could be asked by the clinician, ââ¬Ëwhat brings you in todayââ¬â¢). The clinician also attempt s to make use of summary statements and reflections in order to enable the patient build up their empathy (Miller, Rollnick Conforti, 2002). In addition, the clinicians also tend to facilitate ââ¬Ëin-sessionââ¬â¢ change talk. The skills employed in motivational interviewing are structured in such a way that the individual in question ends up playing a collaborative role in the entire treatment process. As such, the patient has the autonomy to decide on the direction that the treatment regimen should take.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Moreover, client ambivalence is admittedly seen as more of a natural part of the expected change process. The counselor uses various non-confrontational methods in order to decrease client ââ¬Ëresistanceââ¬â¢. In addition, the counselor is careful not to directly confront statements of resistance from a client and instead, choose to accept them. Motivational interviewing enables the counselor to ââ¬Å"meet the client where they are atâ⬠. During the first session, not many patients would be willing to talk about the issue of substance abuse that they are faced with. In motivational interviewing however, the counselor endeavors to help the patient reflect on the various interests that they have in life. For instance, a patient of substance abuse could be willing to have her 11 year old daughter to regularly attend school and yet she cannot realize that she has a problem with substance abuse. In such a case, the counselor tries to assist t he patient work on their parenting issues. This acts as a starting point for the counselor to delve deep into the issues of substance abuse. Motivational interviewing has successfully found use in the treatment of outpatient and inpatient patients who have been abusing drugs. Group Therapy Approaches Group therapy approach has gained popularity as the most common mode of treatment for individuals seeking a remedy for their drug abuse behaviors. According to proponents of the group therapy approaches, this mode of treatment has been found to have far more benefits in comparison with individual therapy. For example, in group therapy approaches, a single professional is in a position to interact with a number of patients at the same time (Doweiko, 2009, p. 337). In addition, members of a group therapy are better placed to learn from the individual experiences of their colleagues on the issue of substance abuse. As such, the provisional of feedback among the members is also possible.Adv ertising We will write a custom essay sample on Motivational Interviewing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Moreover, individual members of the group therapy approach are in a position to provide their fellow patients with behavioral models. This is especially important for the clients who are yet to cultivate trust with their therapist. In group therapy, the clients find that rare opportunity to enhance the various interpersonal deficits that they could be faced with. In addition, the nature of the therapy group is such that clients are in a position to confront the problems facing them because they can now be able to trace their root causes. Substance abusers who also suffer from personality disorders would also benefit from group therapy especially if such a therapy makes use of cognitive-behavioral approaches as a way of diagnosing and assisting the clients to handle painful affective states capable of enhancing the clientâ⠬â¢s urge to abuse drugs. However, women confronted with problems of substance abuse are somehow intimidated by a group therapy setting, perhaps due to shame-based issues (Doweiko, 2009, p. 337). Besides, elderly clients may also not feel comfortable with the complex and interactive patterns that the group therapy setting provides. Under these circumstances therefore, the clients could respond more favorably to a client-therapist interactive session, as provided for by motivational interviewing. Family and marital therapy This form of therapy has proved useful in drug/alcohol rehabilitation programs. As such, the therapy is now seen as an integral component of substance abuse treatment, except under special circumstances (Doweiko, 2009, p. 337). Although there are various types of family therapy, nonetheless, the most common and widely used from is the family disease approach. According to this approach, substance abuse is regarded as an illness of the entire family, as opposed to a problem of the individuals faced with a drug problem only. The family disease approach framework enables the family members and the therapist to work together with the sole intention of identifying the crucial role played by the substance abuse within the family setting.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? In a case whereby one partner is embroiled in substance abuse problems, such a marriage is often characterized by unhealthy patterns of communication. This only acts to enhance the partnerââ¬â¢s addiction problem. As such, family and marriage therapy approaches that emphasize more on the need for communications skills training are highly effective in helping the patient to shun their substance abuse behavior, as opposed to other rehabilitative programs that stresses more on an individual. Conclusion Out of the three chemical dependence treatments examined by the research paper, motivational interviewing is the most effective. This is because in motivational interviewing techniques, the client takes control of the therapy process because of the collaborative nature of the therapy. Accordingly, the patient has the autonomy to decide on the direction that they would want the therapy to take. In addition, the counselor assists the patient to address some of the secondary issues that though not directly related to substance abuse, may end up hindering the actual therapy. Digging deeper into the writings and tying them in with personal values and ties can make these early writings very meaningful. The people of this time started to read not only for the fact of just to read, but they started to read for entertainment. Ralph Waldo Emersons The American Scholar, Washington Irvings Rip Van Winkle, and Robert Frosts The Road Not Taken, are all stories/poems that take an in-depth look at portraying the American character. In this paper Im going to take an in-depth look at these three stories/poems and see how they depict the American character. So put on your reading glasses and come along for a ride on the American culture adventure. Washington Irving set a good tone by building the American character in his writing of Rip Van Winkle. Irving used vast analogies to build upon what we would view as the American character. In his writing, Irving stated, I have observed that he was a simple good natured man; he was moreover a kind neighbour, and an obedient, henpecked husband (Anthology 450). Talking about Van Winkle in this statement, Irvings true meaning of this is that Van Winkle fights for survival in his everyday life. He builds his own character by being kind to the people around him and works hard as being a good husband. Another statement by Irving that shows Van Winkles impact in the community is, Certain it is, that he was a great favourite among all the good wives of the village, who, as usual with the amiable sex, took his part in all family squabning gossippings, to lay all the blame on Dame Van Winkle (Anthology 450). Irving is portraying Dame Van Winkles character as impacting the village. Jus t as a true American character would do, Van Winkle leaves a lasting impact on his village. These men experienced horrors beyond belief in a matter of years, which is ten times worse than a normal man experiences his whole life. This generation of men, from 1914-1918, who fought in a great war and lived in constant fear of their last breathe, while we enjoy parties, the freedom of being a teenager, and able just to kick back and enjoy life at its prime. This is the lost generation. As tensions grew in Europe during the early twentieth century young teenagers throughout were going to grade school and enjoying life to its fullest. Little do these children know that in a matter of years they will be fighting in one of the most gruesome wars in history. While they were in school the leaders of Europe were contemplating the thought of war and forming alliances. Many people thought that if they went to war, it would be over and done with before they knew it. The people who said this were the lucky ones; they didn't have to fight in it. The kids who did fight in it didn't know what to expect. They were taken from their sheltered homes and thrown into unimaginable chaos. World War I should never have been fought. It was because of a royal family feud that caused millions of deaths. How would one feel if one saw their best friend blown up right before their very own eyes? These kids saw their comrades choke to death because of the fatal mustard gas. They saw friends get shot in the stomach and die slowly of excruciating pain. The dead bodies were innumerable and they had to face their enemy eye to eye and then kill them. These men starved and had to fight off giant rats. Most of these men died of a cause they did not know. If you look at The Gulf War back in 1991, any intelligent person would say how easily we won.
